A Beautiful Tree in the Yard
From The Nineteen Ancient Poems
Tr. ZHAO Yanchun
A beautiful tree in the yard,
Out of its green leaves its flowers burn;
I pluck a blossom from a twig
For the one for whom I do yearn.
The fresh fragrance fills out my sleeve,
But I can’t send it as it’s too far.
It’s not something precious at all,
But our yearnings and pathos are.
